Still Amazing!
the O'Neill Mutant wetsuit is in the running for the best suit of the year. Loved by professionals and amateurs alike for its warmth and flexibility. The Fall 2011 Winter 2012 models have added some new features to the already feature rich Mutant wetsuit line.
You've got to wear it to believe it. I thought this wetsuit was going to be a lot of hype. It's a lot of money for a wetsuit and I just couldn't see myself shelling out that kind of cake for a wetsuit. KWIM? Well, after trying this thing on, I found out it wasn't hype, it's a fact. I know there are a lot of terms and cool sounding gadgets in this wetsuit, but I don't know what most of them mean. I was going to try this wetsuit out and see if it would fit the bill. The chest zip is way easier to enter than I had expected. It's easier to get into than my half BZ. I was expecting to have to pull a Houdini, but I was pleasantly surprised to find this wetsuit really was 'easy on' and even more importantly - easy off. One thing you're really going to notice about the chest zip is the lack of back-flush from a duck dive. No more sudden cold flushes running down your spine. I was very skeptical about the chest zip wetsuit, but I'm not sure if I'm going to ever wear a back zip again. It's the little things that add up to make big differences. The neck lining stuff is a wonderful addition. It doesn't chafe your neck even after many hours in the surf and sun. I don't wear rashguards under my wetsuit anymore and that's a good thing. I bet the neck lining stuff has a fancy name, but I'll just call it great. I don't have calluses on my neck from a wetsuit anymore - hurray! My first day in this wetsuit was a day to remember. Normally, I can do a good 2-3 hour session before I get noodle arms in a fullsuit. After 4.5 hours in the Mutant, the only reason I left was I needed to get something to eat before going to work. I don't know if it's the flexibility of the neoprene or O'Neill wetsuit design, but this wetsuit lets me surf more and keeps me warmer than my old wetsuit. Good design and quality materials have made this my favorite wetsuit.
I was afraid of the price, but after wearing this for a month, I can say it's now my favorite wetsuit I've ever owned and I can't believe I waited so long to buy it. I haven't tested the hood because I live in a fairly warm place and it's not cold enough yet. Judging from everything else this suit does, I can't imagine the hood being anything other than stellar.
